August Meeting (We're back!)
"Restoration of the Division Street School"
Presented by Vic Megenity.
The historic School building was one of the first elementary schools for African-American children.  With construction beginning in June 1884, it operated as a school until May 1946.  It now serves as a museum and educational facility.
Tuesday, August 27th, 6:30pm  in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium, of the Floyd County Public Library
at 180 West Spring Street.

September 2024
"New Albany's Steamboat Industry"
Presented by Kadie Engstrom, Historian, Author, Belle of Louisville, Martha M. Miller, docent Howard Steamboat Museum.
Kadie will trace the history of steamboats, their contribution to national expansion, and their economic impact.
Tuesday, September 24th, 6:30pm  in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium, of the Floyd County Public Library
at 180 West Spring Street.

Padgett Museum
The Padgett Museum, operated by the Floyd County Historical Society,
located at 509 West Market Street, New Albany, Indiana
Will be open Saturday September 14th from 1-4pm

Raising money to preserve windows and doors at the museum. Solicitation Letter

Our Community 2023

This is Our Community is given to all third graders in the county and is used to satisfy the Indiana History course requirement for all students in private, parochial, and public schools. 

The 2023 version has been delivered to the schools!
Editorial and financial support for the 2024 version are welcome.

Clark's Grant Historical Society
The Thomas Downs House (1809)
Owned by the Clark's Grant Historical Society, 1045 Main Street, Charlestown, Indiana.
The oldest brick house still standing in Charlestown. ...with 2 front doors ...one side for business. The house was used as the Clark county office until the courthouse was built in 1813.  The county seat was in Charlestown at the time. Thomas Downs was President Pro-tem of the Indiana Legislative Council from 1809-1811.

SEPTEMBER MEETING
Chris Dunlap, Vice President of Ancient Kentucke Historical Association (AKHA),
will present "Stewart Family Connections"
Chris has done extensive research into his family and local history.  He will present information about the Stewart family and tell of connections to George Rogers Clark, the Downs family, Daniel Boone, Robert L. Stevenson, spys, and other interesting local history.
Monday, September 16th; 7:00 at the Charlestown Public Library: 51 Clark Road; Charlestown, Indiana.

Most of us would like to share our genealogical research.  Vicki and Michele will walk us through the collection and organization of data with the object of publishing..

A "meet and mingle" will begin at 6:15pm.  Refreshments will be served in the Auditorium!
